Before us is not the third part of a major saga, but a kind of “Hobbit” (it is clear, of course, that “The Hobbit” was the beginning of history and that the comparison is not entirely appropriate, but for the sake of a red word, you won’t sing like that). Everything is beautiful, glitters, rides on a sleigh and fights with stone giants – but where, in fact, is the plot? This awkward moment – the realization that you have almost wasted 100 hours of your life – comes suddenly: for some, for example, insight can come when in the next beautiful elven temple at the end of the quest, instead of an incredible plot revelation, they give a shield for the non-last time. But first things first.
The most important news is undoubtedly the work on the mistakes in the form of following the global trend “Make it stylish and flat”. Decaf benefited somewhere, somewhere not so much – not everyone is given the chance to turn the foundations of the market upside down every three years.
An example where “Stylish and Flat” turned out to be a boon is the visual style. By the third part, the game decided that the paintings of Bosch and Klimt fit her perfectly. Not a minus and the fact that in DA: I you can really play a role, which has not been for a very long time: at least the elf “For the glory of the elves!”, the cunning youngest son of the youngest son from the Free Marches and the sorceress mimicking the characters of the interlocutors, only in responsible moments showing all their bias and loyalty to the cause of the uprising, are obtained with little or no exaggeration from the plot or their own lines.
Characters, which are traditionally good at Bioware, also did not let us down. The only pity is that the lion’s share of their charm is revealed in the dialogues of the party members. But compared to previous games, these have become more independent, and their personal quests have been thought out. Even Varric, who, in truth, has no place at all in the new game, looks like a normal, albeit very unfortunate dwarf. A purely elven apostate stands out from the sheer splendor, whose quest, romantic line, and dialogues look like a censored letter from the front, and an Orlesian magician, which, it seems, was simply not completed.
Separately, it is worth pointing out that the problems of sexual minorities are not bypassed: now the indicated problems look better than in the second part, where Anders personally raped millions. But some of their caricature still remains, even despite the fact that one of the characters was written by (!) Gaider himself. Moreover, the authors did not stop at playable gays and lesbians and introduced an entire transgender into the story. No, well, but what – since the light version has rolled in Mass Effect, now you can add hardcore.
The system of secondary tasks has also been redesigned for the better. At least now you do not have to comb through all the solar systems on the Normandy and scan every planet, as in Mass Effect. Definitely a step forward. Yes, and advisers make the process a little more human in relation to the player.
In addition, the possibility of crafting anything has appeared, and from now on it will be much easier to be a knight in sparkling white armor – if only you had patience. In general, with regards to characters and possible behaviors and appearance, Dragon Age: Inquisition is quite an RPG. Like Sims.

Now let’s move on to the fact that the trend “Stylish and flat” suffered.
First, tactical management and AI got it. And before the second patch, everything was completely deplorable, then it got better, but still bad: the characters do not move, the villains stand in line, the archers rush under the dragon’s feet, the tanks go to beat the small fry. And nothing can be done about it, except in the new tactical camera mode to issue commands to everyone. Always. No thanks. Alas, otherwise, any battle turns into an endless call, and in the battle with dragons, Munchkin holes proudly glow.
Secondly, farming is simply indecent, but now you need to collect everything that is on the map, otherwise you will not be able to upgrade your healing potion (and this is important, because there is no more healing magic) or make a comfortable jacket. Today, instead of following the plot of the map, you need to look under every stone, jump on the highest mountain and comb every stream. Probably, such mockery can be just a red herring. But, unfortunately, the management of anything up to the aforementioned moment was the last thing the reviewer was worried about in games. And I would like it to stay that way, but Bioware had other plans. Therefore, the reviewer, apparently in retaliation, draws attention to what turned out the worst.
Thirdly, the dimensions had a negative impact on the plot of each map. Yes, they have cross-cutting stories, but no matter what, they always end up with a useless chest and a lot of plot fluff. Why did the dwarves climb up before it became fashionable; what the elven gods did and who they were in life; why did the Venatori raise a bunch of dead men; what about red lyrium; and in general, why do we need Solasan? No no and one more time no. Get a chest with useless loot of a level you don’t need (we’ll cry about the fact that the level of a card is determined by the card, and not by the character). And read the codex about the dual nature of constellation names. Which are first Elven, and then Tevinter.
Fourth, villain. And, as a result of the villain, the whole central plot. No, as a DLC character, he was very good, but as a main enemy, he looks nothing. The Inquisitor looks pretty much the same, to be honest. Both the villain and the hero look like twin brothers, puppets, which a chain of non-random accidents leads somewhere into the credits, where those who made all the mess are still hiding. The story ends before it even starts, and this is despite the fact that in the background, in the quests, in the codex and in the dialogues, events are unfolding much more epic and exciting. But no, no stories – save the world from the antagonist who moved because of a childish shock. Why all the great armies, the breaking of the Bull for the sake of a non-existent alliance and the greatness of the Inquisition, if in the end nobody needs it and turns into nothing? And so it turns out – for every fantastic plus, the game has a stunning minus. How it could become the “Game of the Year” in this case, except for the absence of rivals, is completely incomprehensible. Relax, Geralt.
